Punjab Public Service Commission(PPSC) is the oldest Public Service Commission in the country and was establishedin April 1937 under the Government of India Act, 1935. The act was adaptedin 1947 after independence. Its functions were defined explicitly in the1956 and 1962 constitutions as well. On creation of one unit the Commissionw as renamed as the West Pakistan Public Service Commission until 1st July 1970 and on dismemberment of one unit it was again named as Punjab Public Service Commission.

The Commission is vested with the responsibility of making direct recruitment for various posts under the Government of Punjab. It is a statutory body constituted under the provisions of the Punjab Public Service Commission Ordinance 1978 and the Punjab Public Service Commission (Function) Rules 1978 which have been framed as provided for in Article 242 of the 1973 constitution. The Commission enjoys the status of a special institution and is under the administrative control of S&GAD of Government of Punjab

LOCATION

The Commission's Main Office is located at 2-Agha Khan (Davis) Road, Lahore where the major work of the Commission is handled. The two regional offices located at Multan and Rawalpindi extend services to local candidates in the following manners:-

Disseminate information.
Process application
Arrange tests/examination in the region.
Conduct interviews when instructed by the main office.

NATURE AND SCOPE

According to functions laid down in Punjab Public Service Commission ordinanceNo.II of 1978, the Commission is responsible for recruitment to variousposts falling in Grade-16 to 22. The recruitment for the post of Grade-1to 15 are outside the purview of the Commission unless specially authorisedby the Government of Punjab.

The primary function of the Commission is to ensure that all posts within its jurisdiction are filled strictly on merit, subject to the recruitment policy of the Government.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

The selection procedure has been evolved based on well stipulated policy decisions andCommission's Regulations developed over the years. The main aspects are:-
  • Requisitions on prescribed form are received from the Administrative Departments for recruitment to various posts.
  • Applications are invited from the candidates against the posts advertised through the press.
  • Candidates are admitted to the written examination/test provisionally at their own risk subject to their being found eligible in all respects. On detailed scrutiny of the applications of the candidates declared successful in the written examination / test, if any candidate is found ineligible in any respect under rules, his/her candidature is cancelled regardless of the fact whether he/she has apeared in the written examination / test or qualified therein. To avoid frustration , the candidates are advised in their own interest to make sure before appearing in the examination that hey fulfill all the requirements of the rules, relating to the examination
  • All applications are scrutinized in accordance with selection criteria and service rules laid down by the department concerned to determine the eligibility of the candidates. Applications of ineligible candidates are rejected.
  • Qualified candidates are interviewed by the Commission and recommended on the basis of  aggregate merit.

GENERAL ADVICE

HOW TO APPLY

 

Throughout the year, consolidated advertisements of the Commission appear in the leading Urdu and English newspapers and PPSC website. The criteria and the number of posts available are also indicated. If you are a candidate, you must check if you fulfill all the conditions laid down.

  • Obtain the prescribed Application Form from the office of the Punjab Public Service Commission 2-Agha Khan (Davis) Road or its Regional  Offices in Multan and Rawalpindi. Application Forms can be obtained from branches of National Bank  of Pakistan or by sending a self addressed large size envelope affixed with postage stamp to the Commission office at Lahore. The Forms may also be downloaded from PPSC website
  • Application Forms are only provided on production of paid Treasury Receipt/Challan.
  • Candidates from abroad can apply on plain paper giving particulars of age, qualification and domicile etc. 
  • The form duly completed in accordance with the"Instructions to the Candidates" along with attested copies of all educational certificates, domicile and other documents are required to be submitted to the Commission within the specified date.
  • Applications are received by hand and by post  or  through courier service at Lahore and regional Offices. Applications received after closing hours of the last date for receipt of applications are rejected.
